The Kerala houseboats
are renovated Kettuvallams which are
constructed by tying together planks
of Jack wood or wood from the Anjili
tree. Not even one nail is used for
constructing these boats; the planks
are tied together with coir ropes.
Renovated into
house boats for tourism purposes,
they are equipped with the basic modern
conveniences which make your stay
a memorable experience. Outboard engines
complement the traditional way of
rowing with big oars.
These boats are
renovated with only natural materials.
The roofs are created with bamboo
mats, sticks and the Aracanut tree
wood. Coir mats and wooden planks
make up the flooring. The beds are
made up of Coconut tree’s wood
and coir.
Light and electric
energy is provided with the help of
solar panels. Care is taken that the
solid waste and sewage is disposed
off with the help of Bio-Chemical
alternatives and not discharged directly
into the waters. Plastics are not
used under any circumstances.
The houseboats
have accommodation options in terms
of the number of rooms. Each bedroom
has an attached bathroom. A living
room cum dining hall, sun deck, and
a private balcony are the other additional
features of the house boat.
The crew has separate
quarters and a separate rest room.
A clean kitchen with a strong focus
on hygiene, from which tempting aromas
of the local cuisine emanates. Professional
cooks make a variety of tempting food
for you. The kitchen is well protected
from any hazards by the fireproofing
and fire extinguishers.
The rooms are
equipped with clean and good quality
linen, blankets, towels. The boats
have valid licenses and the log books
as well as the tourist records are
kept up to date.
