The Kovalam beach resort, 14 kms from
Thiruvanthapuram, has been favoured by tourists ever since 1930.
It is made of three adjacent crescent beaches - the Samudra,
Eve's Beach also called Hawah and the Light House Beach. The
Light House Beach is the most popular of the three. The Vizhinzam
mosque can be seen further south. Beautiful colourful Coral
reefs line the coast at many places adding to its charm. The
Eve's Beach is used as a base by the local fisherman every morning.
Samudra, the northern most beach experiences the changing times,
the least. The evenings are enlightened by the colourful performances
of Kathakali dancers. Kathakali is the traditional dance drama
of Kerala, where dancers usually men, paint their faces in vibrant
colours and depict emotions not only through actions, but also
through their face. The beach is ideal for activities like swimming,
water skiing, surfing and Kayaking.
