The enchanting Island of Pathiramanal has a mytholigical significance
attached to its creation. According to mythology a young brahmin
dived into Vembanad Lake to perform his evening ablutions and
the water made way for land to rise from below.
This little Island on the backwaters
is a favourite haunt of hundreds of rare migratory birds from
different parts of the world and is a birdwatcher's delight.
The Island lies between Thaneermukkom and Kummarakom, and
is accessible only by boat. 1 and 1/2 hours by motor boat
or 30 mins by speed boat is all it takes to reach this amazingly
beautiful place. Pathiramanal, meaning sands of the night,
is an ideal place to take a break.
